”Count Your Blessings (Instead of Sheep)” as sung by Rosemary Clooney, written by Irving Berlin for the movie “White Christmas”
Two Christmases ago, the Mrs. bought me a record player, and we’ve been enjoying exploring old records our parents have along with some used records we’ve bought at second-hand stores. As you might imagine, Christmas records are well-represented in the hand-me-downs, and one of them is titled “Happy Holiday” - a collection of various singers like Sinatra, Crosby, and Monte. Among the tracks is one sung by Rosemary Clooney that slipped into my subconscious and I found myself humming: “Count Your Blessings”. It’s not one of the songs that makes its way into our modern seasonal repertoire, but I think it deserves to hold a place in the cycle. Originally sung by Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney in the movie “White Christmas”, here she carries the whole tune with her glistening smooth vocals.
